Beating prostate cancer

By raising cancer awareness, we are all helping in fighting cancer. Cancer awareness is usually (though not eternally) made known through the sale of items such as cancer bracelets and other jewelry items. Awareness is also raised when people host unionized fundraising events such as telethons, road races and other local events at schools, churches and public locations.

Despite all of the individual fundraising efforts, there is still not enough money needed to conduct all of the cancer research that is necessary. However, as more and more people are diagnosed with cancer on a daily basis, we need to keep plugging away, hopefully finding a cure for all forms of cancer. In the meanwhile, there are some ways that you can prevent certain types of cancer. For instance, skin cancer is a common kind of cancer, which left untreated, can become deadly.

In the summer time before you head out the door to go to the beach or run errands or participate in outdoor athletic activities, make sure that you Use a a generous amount of sunblock or sunscreen to the areas of your skin that are going to be exposed. While it is ok (and healthy) to get some sun, the worst thing that you could do for yourself is to sit out in the hot sun for hours at a time exposed and without protection.

Experts advise wearing breathable clothing and staying out of the sun as much as possible. If you do have to be in the sun for any length of time and you are not an athlete, you should always make sure that you are wearing both a hat and sunblock. Wait until the early mornings or late evenings to go for runs or work out outside. Avoid overexposure at the beach or the golf course, and be sure to carry plenty of backup sunblock with you so that you can reapply every few hours or so.
